More Amazing Engineers’ Arcade Photos & Videos

Welded Sykkelen and Todd Barricklow's RailcarsThe Engineers’ Arcade has been updated with a wealth of exciting graphical depictions.

The amazing Welded Sykkelen is functioning as a four-person “rowing” railcar! You simply MUST see the moving pictures.

Additionally, Mr. Barricklow’s evolving solo craft has what appears to be a smoke stack of sorts blooming from the fore and now sports all hand-built wooden wheels.

Alas, tragedy has struck our very own Krank-Boom-Clank lads. While evidence is blurry at best and grains of salt are to be taken with anything issuing from Black Rock City, NV, The Hennepin Crawler has apparently turned against one of its own.

Or, perhaps, ’tis simply a case of overenthusiastic affection on the part of a big lovable beast toward its maker. Let us deliver hearty wishes that K-B-C may recover in time for the Regatta!

Kindred Hackers Part 4: Dept of Spontaneous Combustion

Scotty C. displays his oddball trikePart 4 in our continuing series on inspirational Kindred Hackers is seated squarely in the measureless vision of DIY madness of Scotty C. at the Kinetic Sculpture Lab and the Department of Spontaneous Combustion.

The maestro Scotty C. and his incomparable compatriots of pedal-craft have long been at the helm of kinetic greatness, contributing annually to the renowned Kinetic Grand Championship in Arcata, CA, and the infamous Black Rock City, NV.

Our very own Krank-Boom-Clank crew speak glowingly of the openness and camaraderie that is the hallmark of the bike-mod and kinetic sculpture race community at large. Scotty C. is no exception with his generous offerings both in person and in his abundant Aether-web guides and divers offerings of flaming folly.

The Handcar Regatta squad respectfully tip our toppers to such innovative and staggering creative lunacy in alternative transportation absurdity!

Extra! Extra! Neverwas Haul Destined For Handcar Regatta

Neverwas Haul circa 1888As the wonders of the industrial age never cease, The Great Hand Regatta is about to set stage for the inestimable artifact that is:

NEVERWAS HAUL

This September 28th, 2008, “The Haul” shall find yet another home of plenitude and promise in sunny Santa Rosa, CA, at The Great Handcar Regatta!

To date, Neverwas Haul and her delightful crew of crack engineers and brazen lasses, this fairer sex often seen shamelessly taking to hand a wrench or two themselves, have been the toast of fabled towns such as the illustrious Black Rock City, NV, Oakland and San Jose, CA, and, of course, New Amsterdam, London, and mighty Shangri-La beyond the frozen seas, among others townships too numerous to recount here.

What will they think of next!?” shall be the wide-eyed shouts of giddy disbelief from honored guests at The Great Handcar Regatta!

Three Cheers and Huzzah!

There is yet much more to learn, good reader!

Neverwas Haul , a self-propelled 3-story Victorian House, made from 75% recycled equipment and materials, returns with new interiors, operating system, and collections from its travels around the world (i.e., oddities of the Jules Verne era including a Camera Obscura, described below). The Haul measures 24 feet long by 24 feet high and 12 feet wide and is built on the base of a 5 th wheel travel trailer.

  • A brief interview with Major Catastrophe (a.k.a. Shannon O’Hare) is recounted at the Aether Emporium Wiki.

  • Extensive electro-luminescent renderings of said Haul are available via Flickr.
