Driving Directions

The Handcar Regatta is located at Railroad Square in the old downtown Santa Rosa, California, “Depot Park” between 4th and 5th Streets near Wilson Street.

Santa Rosa is approximately 48 miles north of San Francisco via Highway 101.

• North on Hwy 101 (alternative construction route described)
  1. Near Santa Rosa downtown, exit Hwy 12 Sebastopol (West)
  2. Loop around exit ramp and merge left to immediate exit at Dutton Avenue, turn right (North).
  3. Go under freeway for two short blocks to West Third Street, turn right (East).
  4. Go less than a mile past train tracks to Wilson Street, turn left (North).
  5. Head North for one block to the Handcar Regatta grounds on the left.
  6. Alternative-Alternative Route: If you missed the Hwy 12 Sebastopol exit, then carry on to College Ave exit and turn left (West). Remain in left turn lane to Hwy 101 South onramp. Follow South on Hwy 101 directions below.
• South on Hwy 101
  1. Exit at Downtown Santa Rosa.
  2. The exit merges to Davis Street, head South for one block to 5th Street, turn right (West).
  3. Head West for one block to the Handcar Regatta grounds straight ahead.
• West on Hwy 12
  1. In Santa Rosa, turn left (South) on Farmer’s Lane (it remains Hwy 12).
  2. Head South for less than a mile to Hwy 12 Sebastopol West, turn right (West).
  3. Travel less than a mile to 101 North exit to the right.
  4. Remain in right off ramp lane to Third Street exit, turn left (West).
  5. Go beneath freeway overpass, then two blocks to right (North) on Wilson Street.
  6. Head North for one block to the Handcar Regatta grounds on the left.
• East on Hwy 12
  1. In Santa Rosa, exit Dutton Avenue, turn left (North).
  2. Go under freeway for two short blocks to West Third Street, turn right (East).
  3. Go less than a mile past train tracks to Wilson Street, turn left (North).
  4. Head North for one block to the Handcar Regatta grounds on the left.

Leaving Toward South 101 (alternative construction route described)
The closest Third Street Highway 101 southbound onramp will also be closed. To travel 101 south, please follow these directions:

• Return to Third Street and go right (West)
• Go two blocks and turn left on Dutton Avenue (South)
• Travel one short block to left turn lane to enter freeway onramp (East)
• Stay in rightmost lane and bear right to southbound Hwy 101

Motor Carriage or “Car” Parking

JUST ADDED: additional $5.00 parking has been added within a gated enclosure at the west side of the Regatta grounds gravel lot (just east of 6th Street Playhouse). Access it via 6th Street near Wilson Street across from Chops Teen Center.

Do not pilot your noisome motor carriage and indulge a headache amidst traffic and a limitless pursuit of parking space. Instead, dear reader and ambitious saver of precious resources, ride your “BIKE“!

We are providing a safe and secure setting for you to leave your bicycle or Pennyfarthing Hi-Wheeler at our grand event, free of charge!

The noble Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, whose lofty goal it is to promote the bicycle as transportation and recreation, will be providing free valet bicycle parking.

So, good people of Santa Rosa, retreat from said motor carriages and debark into the fresh air, relishing this great event on two pedal-power wheels instead of four!
